Classic Garden Gnomes look right at home in any garden setting. Resembling vintage antiques, they’re made from cast iron that’s been carefully handpainted to evoke Old World charm. Approx. 11″ to 12″ tall, they’re heavy enough to use as doorstops.
Coming in spring: Pick-a-Dilly Flowers (item 39-477).
Have you ever wondered what the decorations in your garden do while you’re busy elsewhere? The new Disney movie, Gnomeo and Juliet, imagines a world of star-crossed love among the statuary, where feuding ornaments stage midnight raids on rival gardens.
Well, Shakespeare may be rolling in his grave but I’m a big fan of fun and whimsical touches, like our Classic Garden Gnomes. These cast-iron figures have the vintage look I love — they would be perfect as extras in any Gothic drama — yet I smile every time I see them. Over the last few years, several charmers that Gardener’s Supply has carried have managed to find their perfect places in my garden. You can see two of them barely peeking up above all the snow where I live in northern New York. There are many more fanciful and fun products like these in our Yard and Garden Décor department. They really are irresistible.
Because I work here, I’ve gotten a preview of the new décor products in our Spring catalog. Believe me, Gardener’s Supply could have done the casting on Gnomeo and Juliet because we have such a great assortment. I’ve already got my eye on a posy of Pick-a-Dilly Flowers to add color in the yard year-round. At three feet tall, they might manage to be visible above the drifts next winter. Or maybe I’ll pick up the Psychedelic Snail to highlight one of the large containers of annuals I put on my front porch. It’s hard to choose. So I won’t—I’ll buy both and spread the joy around.
I’m glad to see that Gnomes are finally getting the attention they deserve. Shakespeare seems like the perfect vehicle for these garden protectors. And, Disney, if you’re looking for the next Gnomish epic, how about Gnomelet? To bee or not to bee, that is the question.
