A crop of pole beans grows in the Bean Grow Bag.
Beans are one of the easiest crops to grow in a home garden. Plant a bean seed, and it will almost certainly grow and produce a generous crop with little effort on the part of the gardener. While most gardeners have tried bush beans, fewer have tried pole beans.
Pole beans grow vertically, making them ideal for small-space gardens. What’s more, the crop matures gradually over a relatively long harvest period, usually 6 to 8 weeks. The key accessory is a sturdy support. Create your own or choose one of these options:
- Our Bean Tower is an economical way to grow bushels of beans in just 1-1/2 square feet. It provides sturdy support for several plants, with 10″ legs that hold it securely in the ground.
- Our Garden Maypole doubles as a decorative accent for your garden. The handsome metal crown at the top has 15 hooks; simply string the jute twine (included) between the crown and the ground pegs. Once the harvest is over, you can toss the plants, biodegradable twine and all, into the compost pile.
- The Bean Grow Bag includes an integrated support system, so you can grow pole beans anywhere in full sun. String the included twine between the hooks on the base and the ring at the top. The porous fabric aerates roots, prevents heat build-up and allows excess water to drain away.
