Small Inspirations

Planting a miniature garden in a stone trough, bowl or found container lets you enjoy a small-space landscape on even the tiniest balcony or patio.

To fill your container, select dwarf plants with small leaves, compact habit and slow growth. Add a few personal touches: a mossy stone, a piece of driftwood or beach glass.

Find inspiration in this slideshow. If you’d like to try an easy project, learn how to make your own container with something called hypertufa. You’ll find step-by-step instructions in the article How to Make a Hypertufa Trough.
